The Man in the Middle

The GallantFew logo is not just clip art born in the mind of a graphic designer.

When the time came for the 1st Ranger Battalion veteran and GallatFew founder, MAJ Ret. Karl Monger, to create a logo for the organization, he knew just the Ranger he wanted to represent the organization.

As a young Captain at 1st Ranger Battalion, Monger served with Ranger legends. His first duty assignment as the battalion's Assistant Operations officer. His boss, a young Major named Joseph Votel, who would go on to command JSOC, USSOCOM, and CENTCOM.

Another Ranger legend, Chaplain COL Ret. Steven L. Berry played an instrumental role in Monger's life. Monger served as the battalion's Adjudant during the tragic Antelope Lake helicopter crash of October 29, 1992. Twelve of the 13 Rangers and Air Force Special Operations aircraft personnel were killed, including Monger's battalion commander, LTC Kenneth W. Stauss. Berry's care of the Rangers during and after the incident remains ingrained in Monger's heart forever.

Berry would go on to serve as the chaplain for the 75th Ranger Regiment, US Forces-Afghanistan, and Joint Special Operations Command. He was inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame in 2020.

The Loneliness Gap Among Young Americans is Growing

  • Evangelical Christians, Protestants, and members of a non-Abrahamic faith are most likely to feel belonging in a community.

  • Those with no religious preference or are not religious are much less likely to feel a sense of community belonging.

  • Religious young people who place greater importance on religion in their own lives are the most likely to feel a strong sense of community: 62% of those who described religion as “very important” to their life felt a sense of community belonging, compared to only 36% of those who are not religious.
